2026 Community Initiative
With the support of The Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex Mr. Andrew Blackman, CStJ, Medi Tech Trust held its Presentation Evening at Uckfield Civic Centre on 14th July 2026. Our charity donated 10 Lifting Chairs to NHS SECAmb Volunteer Community First Responder groups from Eastbourne, Polegate, Hailsham, Newhaven and Seaford, Bexhill, Hastings, Heathfield, Uckfield, Hurst Green and Rye.
1 in 3 people over the age of 65 will have a fall each year so our Appeal helps the vulnerable. When an elderly or frail person is unable to get up, they may have to wait for hours until an ambulance crew can attend. Being immobile for a long time could lead to hospital treatment. The chair potentially saves ambulance journeys and may prevent hospitalisation.
A £2,000 manual mobile lifting chair is a safe solution as one First Responder can safely operate it. The chair can gently lift a fallen person up to a comfortable sitting position in a few minutes. The patient is stabilised with a seat belt and headrest to prevent neck strain. The chair is easily operated, as the lifting process is at a pace controlled by the Responder.
Our community project’s aim is for all areas in East Sussex, Brighton and Hove to have their own manual lifting chairs. We hope to secure some donations by appealing to businesses, clubs, fraternal societies, and the public to consider this much needed equipment. ‘Patients First’ Community Initiative
Our previous Initiative, lasting six years, involved donating equipment for the care of patients to every doctor’s surgery in the county. This was achieved with every surgery in East Sussex receiving up to £5,000 worth of much-needed equipment they had requested. Over 800 items were donated to benefit EVERY East Sussex patient.
