Throughout the pandemic Medi Tech Trust sourced and provided PPE equipment to frontline NHS staff, care workers and the hard of hearing. Our charity also discovered how much medical equipment and surgical supplies is unused. After patenting the name and trade mark, we created our Medigive Initiative that has proved there is an urgent need which has already benefitted thousands of patients.
On 1st August 2021, we launched Medigive, whereby medical institutions and manufacturers are encouraged to donate unwanted medical equipment and surgical consumables, which other medical institutions can apply to receive. Institutions can be donors, recipients or both. During the first 2 years, over £3 million worth of items have been donated to medical institutions in low and middle income countries.
Similar to online shopping, this project has one major difference – items change hands without incurring payments or administration charges. By acting as an intermediary between donors and recipients, MEDIGIVE protects their identities so meeting privacy regulations.
